Alex walked slowly down the street of the avenue, each house looked different and the same all together. Some had small decorations out front while others sit empty, their lawns clean and bare of anything that made them look or feel like home. A soft wind blew across his face and his ice blue eyes scanned the paper he held in his hand, he had taken down the address after reading the ad of wanted help at a daycare. A blue jay flew past catching his eye and he tuned his head as the bird decided to land on the mailbox of the house he was looking for, tilting his head he let a half smile grace his lips before narrowing his eyes on the house itself. “I guess this is the place little bird thanks for the help,” taking a deep breath he thought about walking up to the door but stopped short of the drive.
His eyes glazed over softly as a memory played in his head, his brother was swinging in the baby swing and cooing softly at him as he looked on from the side. Alex leaned forward and kissed the newborn on the head softly, he was so excited to hav a new baby brother, his ice blue eyes connected with the darker blue of his brothers. “I promise I’ll protect you no matter what ok,” his sweet sing song voice drifted into his brothers ears and the baby laughed reaching for his older brother. Snapping out of it Alex bent down trying to steady his breathing again as he took a step to the door of the house. He reached a hand up and knocked softly on the door, holding his breath and hoping that this interview would go well. He looked down at himself straightening his blue button down and tucking it back into his dark blue jeans. His hand ran through his mid length dark brown hair and he sighed again. “Well here goes nothing baby brother wish me luck.”
Courtney was surprised when his sister asked him to conduct an interview for the daycare. Of course, he was happy to do so – but he wasn’t the boss. Maybe it was because they were family and she trusted him enough to conduct it. Nevertheless, Courtney was ready.
The resume read well, but that could always change in a second. While Courtney never really interviewed too many people, he had listened to a few his sister had conducted. Even in nursing, he heard a few. People either flopped or did well. Sometimes there were a few that interviewed well, then flopped completely at the job.
When he heard the knock, Courtney smiled. At least this Alex person was on time. After a few seconds of checking his hair in the hallway mirror, Courtney opened the door and smiled.“Alex? Hi, welcome. I’m Courtney.” The older man greeted, offering a firm handshake. “Please, come in. You can put your shoes on the rug,” Courtney added – nodding towards a rug on the tile in the mud room.
